Enhancing crop yield prediction via smart contracts: Integration of blockchain and IoT in precision agriculture
Author(s): Rashi Tanwar
Abstract: Precision Agriculture is another radical solution that will optimize crop production at a minimum of resources wastage. Nevertheless, conventional data management systems tend to have problems of data manipulation, lack of transparency, as well as inefficiencies in automated decision-making. The paper presents a hybrid system that will be implemented using the blockchain technology, where smart contracts are used in conjunction with Internet of Things (IoT) devices to improve prediction of crop yields. In farming, IoT sensors are installed on farmlands to constantly monitor real-time status of soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and so on. The data obtained is safely stored and confirmed on a blockchain which guarantees transparency, immutability and reliability. Smart contracts execute automated data-driven functions, including irrigation, fertilizer, and pest control, on the basis of predictive analytics based on machine learning models. Application of blockchain and IoT does not only enhance the accuracy of crop yield prediction, but it also provides secure and decentralized agricultural data management to ensure that farmers make informed and timely decisions. The suggested solution has a great potential of improving the efficiency of operations, minimizing costs, and encouraging sustainable farming.
