Abstract: The rapid progress in wearable medical devices, powered by the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), has transformed patient monitoring and healthcare delivery in significant ways. However, these devices often encounter challenges related to heat generation during extended usage, which can impact both patient safety and device functionality. This paper delves into the thermal dynamics of wearable medical devices, emphasizing the effects of heat generation on biocompatibility, skin health, and device performance. A thorough analysis of thermal behaviour across different operating conditions highlights the risks associated with localized heating, such as skin irritation, burns, and decreased patient compliance. Moreover, the study examines cutting-edge advancements in thermal management, including passive cooling methods, energy-efficient circuit designs, and the utilization of advanced materials with enhanced heat dissipation capabilities. By focusing on the interconnection between thermal regulation, device design, and patient safety, this research aims to present a framework for the development of IoMT devices that ensure an optimal balance between performance, safety, and comfort. The findings emphasis the need for collaborative efforts among biomedical engineers, materials scientists and healthcare professionals in crafting the next generation of wearable medical devices.
