Abstract: Internet of Things (IoT) is the new revolution in the field of Information Technology which will be considered and applied in various fields in the world to disseminate and lift up the offerings for the users. As IoT continues to expand rapidly, it is increasingly increasingly susceptible to different security and privacy concerns. Consequently, access control (AC) is essential for ensuring trust within IoT systems. There are varied AC mechanism available today, with varying features that make them somewhat appropriate for IoT. This research provides a comprehensive examination of AC strategies within IoT networks, encompassing all layers from the perception layer to the application layer. A thorough and complete examination of existing techniques is performed, identified strengths and shortcomings with a particular emphasis on protocol optimization. The research investigates the complexities of device authentication, network segmentation, and application-level regulations. The results of this study set up useful insights into the complicated environment of IoT network security, also laying the groundwork for revised research approaches and practical implementations.
